A spectacular mahogany longcase clock featuring a very unusual silvered brass dial displaying the moons age, a separate moonphase dial, hours, minutes, date, the months of the year and a brass centre seconds hand. The central plaque reads the word PRICE in Gothic script.
The corners are engraved with the four seasons and the figures to the arch appear to depict Lady Justice and Hope. There is also a Latin phrase to the arch 'Mensis Perpetual Dies. The 8 day movement also features the rare use of a pinwheel escapement.
The magnificent cabinetwork is veneered with bookmatched mahogany and with fiddleback mahogany to the main truck door. The trunk also with quarter reeded pillars mounted with brass Doric capitals. The base with a central circular design bordered with a thick ebony inlay and solid ogee feet.
The hood with finely reeded pillars mounted with Corinthian capitals, an unusual top pediment with an inlaid Sheraton flower and ebony edge inlay throughout. Also with three matching brass finials and a band of Kingwood inlay to the arch.
A rare and possibly unique example.
