NEW ARRIVAL

An excellent Bristol longcase clock with the rare use of Padauk veneer.

Featuring an eight day duration movement and striking the hours on a bell. The full brass dial has an engraved matted centre. Also featuring seconds, date and blued steel hands. The makers name Thomas Nevitt, Bristol is unusually engraved on the seconds dial. The arch of the dial displaying a moonphase with High Water at Bristol Key. This is thought to be used to show when a Merchants Ship was due to arrive at Bristol.

The substantially proportioned Padauk and mahogany veneered case has a long trunk door with a typically shaped top and an ornate brass escutcheon. There are canter corners to the side of the trunk and the case stands on a plain base and a single shaped plinth.

The hood is finished with a swan neck top with brass patera, a brass spire finial and thinly applied fretwork, as commonly used at this period in Bristol. The dial can be accessed via a glazed door which is framed via separate reeded pillars and brass Doric capitals.

A very impressive and substantially made longcase clock.

NOTE: This clock has just arrived and will require some sympathetic restoration before delivery. The movement will require a service and overhaul and the dial could have its silvering freshened up if desired. The cabinetwork will also require some minimal restoration.
