A highly desirable and small oak longcase clock from the County of Somerset.

The 8 day duration movement striking the hours on a bell and with a 12" square painted dial with Arabic numerals, minutes and both seconds and date to the centre. Also featuring matching blued steel hands and signed by the maker J. Hancock of Yeovil. The corners painted with gold work, foliage and flowers.

The highly desirable oak flat top case of good colour with a long trunk door, a plain base and standing on a single plinth. The hood and trunk also with crossbanded mahogany.  Also with with plain oak pillars and gilt capitals.

Note: Small oak longcase clocks from this period are rare. Hancock of Yeovil was a prolific maker of longcase clocks. We have also seen large wheel barometers by this maker. The family of Hancock carried on working through the 19th century. They appear to have worked from Middle Street, Yeovil.
