Small oak longcase clock by Thomas Phippard of Poole

A very desirable small oak longcase clock of excellent proportions.

The 8 day duration movement striking the hours on a bell and with a 12" square full brass dial with silvered brass chapter ring showing Roman Numerals and Arabic minutes. Also with and elaborately engraved silvered brass centre showing flowers, scrolls and foliage. The centre also with seconds, square date aperture and beautifully made blued steel hands. The  makers name and place of work engraved to the base of the chapter ring. The corners with brass urn spandrels. 

The deep coloured solid oak case of very neat proportions with a long trunk door and a plain base standing on a single plinth.  The flat top hood with solid beech angle pillars and capitals to the glazed hood door and repeated to the rear of the hood with quarter pillars.

Note: Thomas Phippard was born in 1722 and is recorded as a Watchmaker.  He died in 1768.  This style and design of longcase clock has become increasingly popular in recent years.  Subsequently, good original examples are now becoming very difficult to find.
