A good antique longcase clock with a small oak case from the County of Kent.

The 8 day duration movement striking the hours on a bell. The 12" arched painted dial with Roman numerals, Arabic minutes, seconds and date. The corners painted with a fan design and the arch with exotic birds. Also with matching diamond design blued steel hands. The plain oak case of good small proportions with a long trunk door and a plain base with a shaped double plinth. The hood with brass capped reeded pillars and a broken arch top.

Note: There is a John Elliott & Son listed as working between 1802-51. The Kentish Gazette in January 1803 records him as a Watchmaker, Silversmith, Stationer & Bookseller. He was trading from premises opposite the White Hart Inn, High Street, Ashford. Information taken from Kent Clocks & Clockmakers by Michael Pearson.
